Glass is one of many things that can be recycled and kept out of our landfills. In 2006 Americans dumped over 13 million tons of glass into local municipal trash services. Only 22% of that glass was recycled. That’s a very small fraction considering that every ounce of glass can be recycled and reused.
Glass recyclers and manufactures depend on glass recycling due to the need for new products. Using recycled glass is also more “green” than some people may know or think. Being able to use recycled glass to melt into new products is cheaper, and requires less energy.
During the glass recycling process, an entire batch of glass can be ruined if it is not clean and separated properly. So the next time that you are recycling glass be sure to rinse all bottles and food containers thoroughly. Recycled glass is used in new glass products, concrete, home décor and many more things.
Every recycling center varies on how they take glass. You should check locally for the nearest recycling center that takes glass and find out what they require. However there are 2 rules to remember; always separate the glass by color (clear, amber, and colored), and never include window glass, light bulbs, oven ware, or ceramic material.
Marietta Recycling Center specializes in metal recycling and does not accept plastic, glass, or paper.
