At Marietta Recycling, we do more than promote scrap metal recycling. Our vision for the future is to create and promote recycling initiatives in both our local community and society as a whole. Our goal is to help create greener communities as well as a more sustainable world. Because of this, we offer Atlanta recycling tips to help you recycle more.

While Marietta Recycling Center specializes in metal recycling and does not accept plastic, glass, or paper, we encourage recycling of these materials as well.

Atlanta Recycling Tip #1: Metal

For recycling purposes, scrap metal is divides into two categories: ferrous and nonferrous. Ferrous metals such as steel, iron and tin are magnetic, while non ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass and copper are not. Although prices vary based on current market values, nonferrous metals tend to be worth more than ferrous metals.

You can find recyclable scrap metal almost everywhere. Most of the scrap metal our company receives comes from manufacturing, construction and demolition. It’s important to separate your scrap metal from any connected material such as rubber, plastic or wood. By doing this, you’ll make more money and facilitate easier recycling.

Atlanta Recycling Tip #2: Plastic

Although we don’t receive recyclable plastic, we urge you to recycle plastic both at home, at your place of business, and in your community. On average, Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour. Over half of these are not recycled. Also, plastic garbage that is thrown into the ocean kills an average of 1,000,000 sea creatures per year. At Marietta Recycling, we find these statistics atrocious. Recycling plastic saves energy and creates jobs, which is something we all should be trying to achieve.

Atlanta Recycling Tip #3: Glass

Every year, Americans throw away enough recyclable glass to fill a skyscraper. Besides mirrors, windows, Pyrex and crystal, every piece of glass that is produced can be recycled. Despite this, only 4 of the 12 million tons of glass that is produced in America every year get recycled. Recycling glass saves energy and decreases pollution by 20%.

Atlanta Recycling Tip #4: Paper

Paper is perhaps where change in our recycling behavior is needed most. 40% of the garbage dumped in America is paper related. The paper used for offices and writing that is thrown away could be used to build a 12-foot high wall from Los Angeles to New York. The paper we produce costs the planet 2 billion trees per year. Simple changes in our recycling habits could change all of this. And they have. Already more than 90 million cubic yards of landfill space has been saved by paper recycling. Simply separating your garbage into the correct bins can do a world of good.
