Don’t let your old electronics leave toxic waste into the soil and water, keep our environment clean! Recycle your electronics (e-cycle) to avoid the improper disposal that can potentially threaten our lives. MRC encourages you to take this opportunity to keep your community clean.
With the fast pace creation of new technology, there is a high turnover rate for electronic devices. TVs, cellphones, computers, notebooks, phones, etc. are continuously becoming outdated and unwanted. Electronics contain non-renewable and valuable materials that are recyclable. Recycling these electronics can significantly reduce the amount of harmful emissions released into our environment.
"Recycling one million desktop computers prevents the release of greenhouse gases equivalent to the annual emissions of 16,000 passenger cars", says the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The “classic” tube TV has between four and eight pounds of lead per TV. Older computers and cell phone cases also contain lead. Just the components of a computer alone contain lead, mercury, and cadmium (a human carcinogen). Earth 911 stated that new batteries are usually made with lithium, which can be explosive! Letting these toxins leak into our lives leads not only to environmental concerns but health concerns as well.
Be safe about recycling. Make sure that your electronic recycling center is certified and follows industry standards for proper electronic disposal. If the recycling center exports recycled electronics overseas, go somewhere else! Disposal overseas is often done in poor countries with minimal to no environmental protection. Do not let your waste affect the health others. Before you make that step towards a healthier world, erase the hard drive and memory for devices that contain data storage.
Don’t throw away your electronics. Stop potential hazards and join in the expanding e-waste recycling program. E-cycle today!
