Marietta Recycling processes their ferrous (steel) scrap according to the specifications that are set forth by the steel mills. This can sometimes be a complex task that requires a strong knowledge of scrap metal and sophisticated equipment. The specifications of the size, shape and type of scrap steel set forth by the steel mills must be followed exactly, or it can result in a rejection of an entire load of scrap. Marietta Recycling has highly skilled scrap metal processors who are responsible for the task of inspecting and processing the scrap steel. The first task of the processor is to inspect the incoming loads of scrap metal. The scrap processor looks for any type of contamination that may either be an environmental hazard or cause a problem at the steel mill when the scrap is melted. Something as simple as water hidden inside of a steel container can cause a serious explosion at the steel mill. After the initial inspection is complete the processor than determines which part of the processing area the scrap will go to. Each grade of scrap steel is sent to a section of the processing area that has the equipment or machinery to process the particular type of scrap. After the scrap arrives at the processing area, the machine operator is then responsible to process the scrap. There are two types of processing areas at Marietta Recycling. One area is responsible for shearing scrap and the other is responsible for bailing scrap. The machine that is used to shear the heavy gauge scrap i.e. - beams, pipe, and plate is a 500 ton guillotine shear. This machine uses up to 500 tons of pressure to cut or snap the scrap into sizes or lengths that the steel mill requires. The light gauge scrap is processed in a baling machine. This machine squeezes and compacts the scrap into uniform blocks of steel. The blocks of steel are required to be a certain dimension before being shipped to the steel mill. Marietta Recycling has earned an honorably reputation at the steel mills for producing a superior scrap product. The superior product results in a premium price paid by the steel mills for our scrap. As a result of the premium price paid for our scrap we are able to pay top prices for our customers scrap steel. |
